Utah-photography-workshops

Let’s face it, when most people think of the southwestern United States the images that cross their minds are that of the Moab area. This area is famous for arches, towers, canyons, and some of the darkest skies in the country. There is no shortage of incredible scenery available in southeastern Utah. Home to two National Parks, along with an additional 1.8 million acres of BLM managed public lands, the opportunity for unique photos is truly endless. There are vast expanses of red rock that go on for as far as the eye can see. Moab is truly a wonderful place and no doubt a must on any photographer’s bucket list.

On this three-day two-night hiking and vehicle-based photo workshop you will be granted the opportunity to photograph some of Utah’s most iconic landscapes, as well as some lesser-known gems. Our group sizes are kept small so that each photographer gets access to one-on-one instruction. Your instructor will ensure that you are in position to photograph some truly breathtaking moments and their knowledge of seasonal light and weather patterns will help you to utilize every moment of the magical golden hour light that the desert is so famous for, as well as show you the secrets of capturing the incredible stars that shine over Moab.

During this workshop we will photograph iconic locales such as Delicate Arch and Mesa Arch during the optimal time of day to maximize the red hues presented at sunrise or sunset. There will be optional excursions to more intimate and unique locations in Arches and Canyonlands National Parks as well. Other possible locations include Corona Arch, Wilson Arch, Jeep Arch, and Castle Valley. Locations and times are flexible to allow for the group to move with the light and avoid the crowds whenever possible.

Due to the early morning schedule to shoot the night skies and sunrise we will return to our hotel each day mid-morning to rest up and enjoy a meal to help ease the burden of this schedule. You will also have the option to meet with your instructor and review and edit your photos from the previous day’s adventures. This time will also allow an opportunity to receive one-on-one photo processing instruction from your instructor to make the most of those beautiful desert landscapes.

Please note: Due to the nature of the terrain and photo locations on our Magic Hours of Moab Workshop, it is recommended that those who sign up are in good health and ready for a hike. Although the purpose of this trip is photography, it is best suited for those that like to get out and hike!
